Your skills are in demand

Enjoy an outstanding work-life balance with our many healthcare opportunities in New Zealand. There are numerous areas across the country currently facing worker shortages, and the demand for healthcare professionals is on the rise! You have the option to choose the size of the hospital or practice you wish to work in, as well as the type of location you prefer—whether it's a bustling city, a rapidly developing regional center, or a peaceful country town.

New Zealand needs healthcare workers

A growing population, with an increasing proportion of elderly; increasing health needs and rising health expectations; and an aging health workforce are all combining to create skill shortages across the sector. Up to one in five nurses will be looking to retire in the next five years. At the same time nurse training enrolments have been falling. Many GPs too are retiring, creating shortages in that speciality.

Amongst specialists, the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists (ASMS) estimates shortages at 24% with psychiatry, anaesthetics, dermatology and neurology particularly affected. The challenges are not unique to New Zealand, but they do mean there are plenty of opportunities for healthcare professionals in our country.

Supportive and flexible work environment

Healthcare professionals tend to work in small, supportive teams in New Zealand’s public and private health systems. We facilitate an environment that emphasises health and safety while encouraging professional development. Many healthcare professionals work part-time, especially those with young families.

Fast-track your career

Our size and attitude make it easier for you to advance in your career. New Zealand’s flatter business structures put you closer to senior staff, enabling you to contribute ideas and feedback. Grow your skill set by being exposed to many opportunities in other areas of work.
